1 John

Summarize what you read in one paragraph:

I feel empowered by what John shares in this letter.  It is like being able to hang out with my own physical father on his best day – walking along – hearing him gush about God’s love for me and about how to know who the wolves in sheep’s clothing are.  It’s like he is telling me secrets that only princes get to know.  He gives us clarity about how we should perceive and treat others around us then he gives us a glimpse of eternity – who we are in eternity. Then he brings us back to Earth so may we see our struggles with real human relationships in that light.

What is one key verse?

One key verse is 1 John 3:1 “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”

How does what you read change your vision of God?

John wants me to see “what great love the Father has lavished” on me by choosing to make me his child.  Do I see God in this way?  Do you?  John wants us to!

How does what you read change your vision of yourself or others?

John shows us that we are not just pottery, but children born of love, not just masterpieces, but beautiful, “dear,” children. Not just me but my brothers and sisters as well.

How will you Go With God because of this reading? (What is an action step?)

I will love God back fiercely by loving his other children fiercely.

Where did you see Jesus in these chapters? (What made you think about Jesus?)

I see God’s fierce love for us in Jesus’ decision to lay down his life for us – modeling how we should see God and his love for his children.
